The workshop draws on the diverse influences that have shaped Lisa Densem’s dance and improvisation practice, bringing them together with the principles of BreathExperience, a breath-based somatic practice rooted in the work of Ilse Middendorf.

The sessions combine simple warm-up exercises for strength and mobility with guided explorations of movement and perception, following a series of questions: How can we connect with constantly shifting streams of movement? How can awareness and sensation open up new possibilities for movement? At the same time, how can we experience this continuous flow while positioning ourselves in relation to what is happening? What do we choose to allow? What do we choose to follow? How do we give form while being shaped? And how do we negotiate all of this in relation to the question: what does it mean to be seen?

𝗟𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗺 is a performer and choreographer from New Zealand who has been based in Berlin since 1999. She was a long-time member of Sasha Waltz & Guests and has collaborated with choreographers including Sergiu Matis, Eva Meyer-Keller, Laurent Chétouane and Sandra Man. Alongside her work in dance, she is a certified BreathExperience practitioner, a breath-based somatic practice rooted in the work of Ilse Middendorf. Since 2019, she has been researching how this practice can open new perspectives within dance. She holds an MA from the SODA (Solo/Dance/Authorship) programme at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK).
