RHYTHM WITH SIGNS, created by Santiago Vazquez (Buenos Aires, Argentina), is a sign language specifically dedicated to the practice of instantaneous composition. Composed of 120 gestures, it allows a director (conductor) to communicate with a group of musicians to guide them in a spontaneous and collective creation: instantaneous composition. With this restricted repertoire of signs, the director can influence all aspects of the music: the rhythm of course but also the tone, volume, pitch of the notes, etc. Musicians, regardless of their influences or level of practice, can thus collaborate interactively.

After a first successful workshop held in Tranzit House, Marion is proposing a two-day workshop of Rhythm with signs, initiation to the practice and exploring further signs and compositions.

Marion is studying Rhythm with signs in her home country, Belgium. Being in Cluj on an artistic research, experiencing all of this amazing energy that comes from the city and its people, she wants to share the magic of Rhythm with signs. Collectively feeling the power of sound and percussions, expressing joy and fierceness, that is what this workshop is all about.
The workshop is part of the REZONANCES - New Music Programme.

The mission of Resonances - New Music Program is to promote and disseminate regional and international contemporary music productions.
REZONANCES aims to be a permanent point of cultural dialogue at local, European and international level.
