Children Contemporary Dance Class - In My Eyes

dance workshop — 2.12.2019 15:00

In My Eyes is a pedagogical and creative project coordinated by Alexandra Girbea and is addressed to 8-12 years-old children. The classes will expose children to a complex and progressive work process. In the first hour of the class the children will work with movement and dance exercises, as well as choreographic sequences meant to introduce a diverse dance vocabulary and to trace the beginning of a technical base in contemporary dance. Alexandra will guide the children in developing necessary qualities for dance, like balance, flexibility, plasticity, stamina and concentration. The children will be encouraged to understand biomechanical principles like force, speed, rotation, momentum and then to explore diverse movement qualities and adaptability to situations and flexible interactions. The group will work on a varied set of exercises passing through space, exploring different rhythms and coordination.
In the second hour, we will gradually pass towards improvisation and composition exercises. The goal is to create performative materials from the start that will be developed and transformed in time: solo and group sequences. The solo sequences will offer the opportunity to explore and develop their own artistic qualities and curiosities, even if they are not necessarily dance related, they can be integrated. The source of inspiration and the conceptual themes will be the dreams, a subconscious world of imagination and fantasy, where everything is possible, nothing is absurd, and everything we learn and experiment can be integrated and transformed authentically through creativity. The performative materials created during the class will be presented in a performance at the end of the program, in the first days of March.

The class will take place every Monday and Tuesday from 17:00 to 19:00 in the following days of December: 2, 3, 9, 10, 16 and 17. This is the first module, and it will continue in January.

The participation fee is 200 Lei.

We ask the participants to arrive at least 10 minutes earlier.

Alexandra Girbea has been exploring contemporary dance for 10 years, having an eclectic and diverse trajectory. From experimental to technical workshops around Europe, to classes in Bucharest, through the Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy, as well as initiations in martial arts and sports, Alexandra has a keen curiosity on the magic of the movement and the infinite functionalities of the body in movement. The diversity of the techniques helped her discover the universality of movement in all its manifestations and to experiment juggling principles between different disciplines. The main influences are Valentina de Piante, Fighting Monkey, Tai Chi and Wushu, Thomas Hauert, Tomas Bako, David Miko, Marco Torice, Timea Kovacs.
Alexandra has a master degree in Performing Arts from the University of Brussels and has worked in three artistic residencies with Timea Kovacs in the Height Sense project. She coordinated children classes at the Paintbrush Factory and most recently, in august 2019, she had a residency in the Colectiv Performativ project also at the Paintbrush Factory, in collaboration with the visual artist Eranio Petruska.
